Cancer Awareness Month Teaches Healthy Prevention

By joining us in celebration of cancer awareness month, you are taking a stand against every form of cancer. As skincare specialists, we’re passionate about spreading honest cancer awareness information and are motivated to help others because we have first-hand experience with the serious consequences our skincare clients deal with. More than simply improving texture or tone with our skin care in Lancaster, PA, it’s our mission to help our clients improve their skin health and teach them how to protect themselves against the risks of skin cancer.

What is Skin Cancer?

Among the most common types of cancer, over 5 million cases of skin cancer are diagnosed in the U.S. each year! Skin cancer occurs when normal, healthy skin cells mutate and begin to grow out of control. This happens when the skin’s DNA is damaged by too much sun exposure. While excessive UV radiation exposure is the most common culprit, other factors like a family history of skin cancer, hazardous chemicals, and other genetic conditions can further increase the risk of developing skin cancer.

Fortunately, most types of skin cancer are not fatal when treated early. But, since there are many different types of skin cancer, it’s important to have your skin evaluated by a professional the moment you notice any unusual skin issues.

Protect Your Skin

Less time in the sun, a safe sunscreen, and quality clothing are the three best ways to prevent skin cancer. Especially common on the face, neck, and arms, be sure to wear a hat, and long-sleeved shirts, and do your best to avoid direct sunlight for longer than 20 minutes a day.

If you’ve suffered a burn, simple remedies like applying aloe vera and cool water to the skin can help to minimize the effects of the burn and protect your skin from further damage. Also, be sure to drink extra water and stay out of the sun while you’re healing!

Maintaining Your Health is Cancer Prevention!

Equally as important as direct skin protection steps, the effectiveness of your immune system and your overall health plays an important role in skin cancer prevention. Eating a nutrient-rich diet, getting plenty of exercise, sleeping well, and using all-natural skincare products will prepare your skin to heal faster, maintain its youthful characteristics, and will greatly reduce your risk of developing cancer!
